Park System Branding
Town of Pittsboro, North Carolina
The Project
Elevating the Pittsboro Parks brand was a strategic priority throughout my tenure. I initiated and led a comprehensive branding and positioning effort designed to establish the park system as a recognizable mark of quality, design excellence, and civic pride. The goal was not simply to market parks, but to shape a cohesive identity that influenced how parks were conceived, designed, and experienced.
The branding process was iterative and integrated directly into park development. Signature features were intentionally embedded within each park to reinforce system identity while highlighting distinctive characteristics of individual sites. I provided the overarching vision, stylistic direction, and precedent research, drawing inspiration from the Golden Gate Park system, National Park Service New Deal-era iconography, and Pittsboro’s unique cultural context.
Working closely with talented graphic designers and marketing professionals, I fostered a collaborative creative process that transformed conceptual direction into a cohesive, high-quality visual identity suite. The resulting graphics unified the system while celebrating the individuality of each park.
This initiative reflects both aesthetic sensibility and strategic acumen—demonstrating my understanding of branding as a tool for placemaking, public perception, and long-term positioning. It also illustrates a leadership approach rooted in collaboration: setting a clear vision, recognizing talent, and empowering creative partners to produce exceptional work.
